Ashley & Duane, five years later

I didn’t have the good fortune to shoot their wedding, but I was lucky enough to spend a couple of hours playing with them last week.  Duane and Ashley are a husband and wife video team from Birmingham, Alabama.  You can check out their work here…  http://www.DigitalMotionFilms.com.

So Duane and Ashley have been married for a little over five years and being true to the great people they are, they’ve decided to pass along her wedding dress to another girl who is getting married,,, but not before having one more photo session.  While they were in Arkansas for a video shoot, they spent a night in Mtn. Home, giving us the opportunity to work together one more time.  This time, however, they weren’t behind the video camera, they were in front of mine.  This, to me, is what a bridal session should be.  Fun, relaxed and personal.

Here are a few quick samples from the session.

Susan’s bridal session

Here are a few samples from Susan’s bridal session.  I just photographed the wedding this past Saturday and will be posting photos from it later this week.  For now, enjoy a few photos of a beautiful woman in a beautiful wedding gown.

Jake & Shelby – Quincy, IL

One of the greatest compliments I get is when I am invited back to photograph another wedding for a family.  It lets me know that they were happy with my work,,, and hopefully with me.  This past weekend Trisha and I drove to Quincy, IL to photograph the wedding of Shelby and Jake.  I’ve photographed Shelby’s dad’s wedding a few years back and then I photographed her sister’s wedding in Quincy a few years ago as well.  Trisha and I will also be shooting her step-sister’s wedding in Kansas City next Spring.  I genuinely feel as if I’m with family each time I get to be with them.

We were thrilled to spend another Saturday with all of them.  Barb, the mother of the bride took care of us from the time we arrived and made sure everything we needed was available.  We couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Ok, enough about that.  Let’s get to the photos.  There are a TON of them to pick from, so these are kind of random,,, but here are a few selections from the day.

Shawn and Renae – Scranton, AR

I often say that we were treated like family when we photograph weddings, and it’s true. When you spend 8 or 10 hours in a row with a family, they normally get quite comfortable with you. This wedding was just a tiny bit different… I really felt as if I’d gone back home. When we arrived at the church, we found all of Renae’s family finishing up the decorations and working on the food. Walking into the church hall, I was overwhelmed with the smells of all the food coming out of the kitchen. It reminded me of being a kid and walking into my grandparent’s house and seeing my mom and my aunts in the kitchen with Grandma. I loved it.

The wedding was held in an incredible Catholic church that was built in 1917 that has been home to some of Renae’s family ever since it was built. Apparently several members of her family have been married in the same church over the past generations. I thought it was cool that we were there to document one more wedding in this long line. It was actually in Morrison Bluff, Arkansas, population 74. Even though this is the smallest town we’ve photographed a wedding in so far, this was far from being a small wedding.

We were also lucky enough to have a few minutes to steal Shawn and Renae during the reception for a short session.

Thanks for letting us be there to document your wedding day.

When looking through the gallery for photos to post, I couldn’t choose between the next two… so I left both of them in. This guy was just too cute.

Preston and Charisse – Wynne, AR

Preston and Charisse seemed like they’d already been married for years when we first met them. Watching the way they interacted, you got the feeling that both of them were totally comfortable with one another and they played off each other’s strengths. It was very apparent that we were going to have a great time when the wedding day rolled around, and I wasn’t disappointed.

It was a day of firsts for us.

1. First time to shoot in Wynne, Arkansas.

2. First time to finish the wedding day while Trisha and I both wore shorts. (we were in a wheat field and it was hot)

3. First time to have the brake lights go out on our car while we were on the road. (that wasn’t too fun)

Charisse brought two dresses with her for her bridal portraits, because she wanted some non-traditional portraits in locations that she really didn’t care to wear her actual wedding dress. So, here are a few of her bridal portraits and a couple from their engagement session.

Preston’s groomsmen gave him one of the funniest gifts I’ve seen in a long time… possibly ever. A wedding night survival pack of sorts.

Scott and Sarah – Tulsa, OK

Once again, in order to catch up on my ever growing list of photo sessions and weddings that I need to blog, I’m going to start out with some of Sarah’s bridal portraits. My son, Conner, and I met Sarah, her mother and Scott’s mother at the Philbrook Musuem of Art for her bridal session. It had been years since I’d been to there, but it was just as beautiful as I had remembered. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the session.

When the day of the wedding came around I was finally able to meed Scott, the groom. I really enjoyed getting to spend the day with him and his groomsmen. Well, actually I enjoyed spending the day with the entire wedding party and their families. Trisha and I could not have asked to be treated any better, and by the end of the night we felt as if we’d spent the day with family.

One of the best things about their wedding was how free and fun they were. We were given access to every possible moment and their laughter seemed to never stop… and that made it a truly beautiful wedding.

Scott and Sarah wanted to take a few minutes to do some photos out on the golf course at Southern Hills Country Club, where the reception was being held. Thankfully the guys who were waiting in the tee box were very patient. I was afraid we’d find ourselves being pelted with golf balls, but we didn’t.
