Sometimes you have to grab the camera and go play. I love photographing weddings, but I also find pure enjoyment in taking shots of my kids at play. These are shots that really only have meaning to me. They aren’t award winning photographs that I think will ever be nominated for a Pulitzer, nor will the appear in National Geographic, however, to me they are priceless. This afternoon the kids decided to visit the mounds of dirt that are near our house where a new doctor’s office is being built. Ian, while he enjoyed himself, found that he wasn’t too fond of getting so muddy. This shot, and this whole post, is basically submitted for Ian’s grandparents and his aunt and uncle in Oklahoma. So, here you go guys.
Congratulations to Ashlea and Eric on their beautiful wedding this past weekend, Feb. 18, 2006. It was bitter cold and the roads were less than safe to be out on, yet many members of their families and their friends were dedicated enough to make the trip and share their day. Ash and Eric were married at the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, Arkansas on what happened to be our first real winter-type weekend of the year. Temperatures hovered at 13 degrees while a constant breeze brought the wind chill down to 3 degrees. With all that they faced in the way of weather, the couple and all the guests maintained such a great spirit and I was truly honored to be there. The couple was the type I dream of. ….. fun, relaxed and in love. Here are a couple of shots from their wedding day….
Thanks for letting me be part of it. I can't wait for the two of you to see the rest of your wedding photographs. Thanks for letting me be part of it. I can't wait for the two of you to see the rest of your wedding photographs. You know, every time I speak with a potential client who is having a wedding in the winter I am asked, “what if there’s bad weather?”. Well, as long as the wedding is going on, I’m going to give my best effort to be there. This past wedding took place in the middle of a little snow, a little sleet and a little ice. The roads were going to be bad, so I left early and stayed the night before the wedding in a hotel room just a few miles from the venue. The next day, I put the Xterra in four wheel drive and slowly made my way to the location, arriving about two hours early. The weather is merely part of the job I do and love. I make arrangements to work around, or maybe with, the weather. Your wedding day is important enough to me that I will be there. After the wedding I didn’t feel safe driving the 140 miles back home since the majority of my drive would be in the dark, on 140 miles of curvy, rural Ozark Mountain highway. I spent another night in the hotel and the next morning I headed out. Here’s one of many shots I took along the way home.
This photo shows one of the better stretches of highway that I was confident enough to come to a stop to quickly grap a shot of just how the roadways looked. My normal 2.5 hour trip took nearly 6 hours. I guess I now have my answer the next time I’m asked “what if there’s bad weather?”. jb |
