we took a little vacation

Last week, to celebrate our 16th anniversary, Trisha and I took our four kids to Murfeesboro, AR for two nights of camping at Crater of Diamonds State Park. During our stay there we learned a few important things.

1. When borrowing your friend’s tent, know for a fact that the rain fly will not be included and you will have a thunderstorm blow in.

2. Mosquitoes in that part of the state are HUGE and apparently very angry.

3. By putting too much lighter fluid onto the charcoal, you can and will set your grill on fire as well.

4. Digging for diamonds is hard, dirty work.

5. Raccoons will eat your fruit if you leave it out over night.

6. The same raccoon will also attempt to drag away your Camelbak hydration pack if you leave some snack crackers in it.

7. Your three year old will have to go to the bathroom no less than 30 times a day since you now have to walk to the park’s facilities.

8. The park’s swimming pool is a great place to be while others spend their time looking for diamonds.

9. That the chance to take a break from work and spend some time with family is an awesome thing. No phone. No computer. No television. It was wonderful.

10. Sharing campfire coffee with your wife is pretty cool.

Here are a few shots from our vacation. We really didn’t take that many pictures. Trisha and I spend enough time behind the camera, that we wanted to put it down as well and pick up our kids.

Thank you to all those who have wished us a happy anniversary. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated.

Ty & Cari Ann – Mountain Home, AR

Once again Trisha and I found ourselves in the company of friends when we spent the day with Ty and Cari this past Saturday. You may remember their engagement photos, that we shot in April. Engagement Session Post.

Saturday offered weather that was just perfect, especially for July. I’d honestly been a bit afraid that the heat would just be unbearable, but luckily we were given a break with unseasonably cool temps. After the ceremony we had a break before the reception started, so Trisha and I took Ty and Cari to the Mountain Home square to shoot a few portraits of the two of them alone. I love the results and think they will as well. It was a bit of a luxury to be given so much time alone with the couple.

The reception was at the country club at Big Creek Golf Course. Once again, the setting could not have been more beautiful. As the sun was setting we took the opportunity to get just a few more portraits of Ty and Cari.

I’ve known Ty since 2000,,, maybe 2001. He and I previously worked in EMS together for a local hospital’s ambulance department. When I was on duty, I’d set in dispatch at night and listen to Ty’s stories of spending time in Africa as a kid and thousands of other interesting happenings. As such, I was truly honored that he and Cari wanted Trisha and I to be there with them on their wedding day. I’m also thrilled that he has found somebody who is such a wonderful person. Trisha and I both fell in love with Cari from the first time we met her. Saturday we were lucky to see two of our friends get married. We both wish them a life time of happiness and cannot wait until we have the chance to photograph them again.

Here are several shots from the wedding day. A couple more than I normally post, but I guess I’m just feeling energetic today.

Damon and Lissa, e-session

Last week I met Lissa and Damon early in the morning in an attempt to escape the wonderful July heat. The stream that ran along side us as we were shooting was such a relief from the temperatures and the fog that hung over the water made for a beautiful backdrop.

I’d talked to Lissa numerous times before and knew I really clicked with her, but had never met Damon before. This guy has got to be the funniest guy I’ve ran into in a long time. He laughed the entire time we were shooting, which was a real pleasure since he was continually smiling.

Here are three of my personal favorites from their session. I cannot wait to update the blog with their wedding photos after I shoot it later this Autumn.

Brad & Brooke – Little Rock, AR

A few months ago I met Brooke and Brad to do their engagement session. The story these two share really touched me and drew me closer to them. They’ve known one another for most of their lives and this past Saturday, July 07, 2007, they were married in Little Rock, AR at the Albert Pike Hotel. The architecture in this old building left me wanting to wander around and look at all the little details that were so carefully crafted when it was built.

I had started the day off with Brooke and her bridesmaids at the Peabody Hotel where they were having their hair and makeup done. I love this part of the day, as it allows me to get to know some of the wedding party a bit more. Brooke’s girls were so much fun and they all kept me laughing the entire time. I also was able to get a peek at the gifts that Brooke had gotten for Brad and her dad, John. Some seriously cool cuff links that contained some truly meaningful photographs.

The ceremony was as beautiful as I’d expected and the reception was nothing less than elegant. We had a few minutes to get away with just myself, the couple and Brad’s sister.  The picture we took in the parking garage turned out to be one of my favorites.

Many thanks to Brooke, Brad and their family’s for allowing me to share the day with you.

Erron & Allie – Tulsa, OK

A few days ago I posted photos from Allie’s bridal session. Now, we get to post a few shots from the wedding day. Having known Allie for the last year, I knew how much fun she was going to be, but I had yet to meet Erron. It’s obvious that these two are made for one another. He seems to be the perfect compliment to her personality. He’s also just an absolute joy to work with. He and his groomsmen were simply comical.

Spending the day with Allie, Erron and their families left us feeling as if we’d been with long time friends. Part of the day seemed a little sad, as the rain was pouring down, but the resulting rainbow that filled the sky on our drive from the church to the reception made the rain worth it.

Here are a few photographs from the day…..

thanks for letting us be part of it all.
